Community
Outreach and Activism
City Seeds participants are active in our community. A portion of the
food they help to grow is donated to
local organizations. In addition, young people share what they learn,
with special programs and projects in the community.
Engaging Youth in Farmers’ Markets
Youth bring their vibrant energy
to support the City of Poughkeepsie Farmers’ Market
and Beacon Farmers' Market by promoting the market and staffing booths.
City
Seeds Community Meal
(Summer Date TBA)
The community is invited to celebrate our youth and enjoy a meal grown,
and prepared by City Seeds participants. These young leaders will share
more
about the City
Seeds project and their own perspectives on local food and community.
Eat In Act Out
The Boston Food Project began Eat In, Act Out week as an
annual event to encourage communities to eat locally and think critically
about
their food
choices. "Eat
In" refers to using local food, cooking yourself instead of
eating fast food or take out, and "Act Out" means speaking
up and taking action to change our food system and promote local
food. In 2006, City Seeds Participants
hosted garden tours and presented a local foods puppet show as part
of Eat In, Act Out. More events to come in 2007!
Food Policy Advocacy
City Seeds youth conduct research used to help increase
the success of city farmers' markets and improve access to good food
in our
community.
