FoodShare
The Poughkeepsie Farm Project is part of a growing international effort to
link support for sustainable agriculture to the work to end hunger and
increase access to affordable, nutritious food. Here are some of the
ways that the PFP is working to improve access to fresh, locally-grown
food in our communities.
Sharing the Harvest
We donate between 10 and 20 percent of what we grow to area emergency food
providers. In 2006, we supplied a weekly source of fresh, chemical-free vegetables
to:
Sponsored CSA Memberships
We are committed to ensuring access to our CSA for low-income members of
the community. Sponsored share participants not only receive access to
fresh food, but become part of the PFP community. As CSA members, sponsored
share participants have the opportunity to give as well as receive by taking
part in CSA events and projects, contributing their time and talents to
the project. We are committed to raising funds to help off-set the full
cost of membership for those who cannot otherwise afford to participate
in the Farm Project. We are also able to accept food stamps. If you would
like to receive support, know someone who might, or if you would like to
help sponsor a membership, please let us know.

Establishing Farm Markets in Underserved Neighborhoods
The Farm Project provides leadership—and vegetables—for the
City of Poughkeepsie Main Street Farmers Market, a market that has been
struggling to become economically viable. We are working to ensure that
people in our community who participate in the Farmers Market Nutrition
Program—a form of federal food assistance— have a place to
use their coupons to buy fresh vegetables. We are also able to accept food
stamps on behalf of all food vendors at the market. In addition to increasing
food access for those in need, the market also helps to establish a non-emergency
source of fresh food in the heart of the city.
Farming in the City
We are an urban farm, located just three miles from the intersection of
Market and Main Streets in downtown Poughkeepsie. In growing approximately
80 thousand pounds of vegetables each year within the city limits, the
PFP is part of an urban agriculture movement that is revitalizing communities
and increasing food self-sufficiency by growing healthy food in cities.
Support Food Justice at PFP
Please consider supporting this work with a tax-deductible financial contribution.
We also welcome the gift of your time: what we do wouldn’t be possible
without the support of committed volunteers.
