Job PostingsPoughkeepsie Farm Project seeks participants for City Seeds 2008!The Poughkeepsie Farm Project (PFP) seeks participants for City Seeds, a project PFP carries out in collaboration with the Cornell Cooperative Extension Green Teen Community Gardening Program which involves youth ages 14–24 in growing food and seeds, participating in workshops on food and farming, and sharing their new knowledge and skills with the communities of Poughkeepsie and Beacon through community events, farmers market and community supported agriculture (CSA). Positions currently available through the PFPCommunity Food FellowshipsThe PFP seeks four community food fellows for an 11 week program from late May though mid August. This program is designed for young adults ages 18-24. The fellows are involved in growing food and seeds, learning about the food system, and providing leadership in education and community outreach activities. The fellowship is a 45 hours/week commitment—a 40 hour work week plus one night a week participating in educational trainings. Educational opportunities for interns include hands-on farm training, field trips, on-farm education sessions, participation in the CRAFT program (the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training), and access to our library. We're seeking good-natured fellows and interns with an active interest in farming, dependability, ability to work in all weather at physical and sometimes tedious jobs, good communication skills, the ability to take initiative and a desire to be a part of bringing about positive community change. We especially seek young adults based in the cities of Poughkeepsie and Beacon for this project. Interns receive a weekly stipend, vegetables, preliminary training in vegetable farming, and experience in community food work. We are able to arrange low-cost housing for community food fellows. Junior InternshipsThe PFP seeks three junior interns for an 8 week program from late June through late August. This is a part time position at 30 hours per week designed for current or graduating high school students. Junior interns will be involved in hands-on farm work, seed saving projects, farmers market, cooking and community outreach. We're seeking local youth who are dependable, ready to do physical work outdoors, would like to learn more about gardening and farming, and cooking and eating fresh vegetables, and are excited to share their what they learn with others in their community. We especially seek young adults living in the cities of Poughkeepsie and Beacon for this project. Junior interns receive a weekly stipend, vegetables, and valuable new skills and experiences. We highly encourage graduates of the Green Teen summer City Seeds program to apply and we welcome others to apply as well.
