Informational Webinar about the 2021-22 NY State Farm to School Institute

Poughkeepsie Farm Project is pleased to continue its collaboration with Farm to Institution New York State (FINYS) on the NY State Farm to School Institute. The application for the 2021-22 NY State Farm to School Institute is now live! The institute is a year-long professional development opportunity for food service staff, educators, administrators, and community partners in New York schools to develop and refine their Farm to School programs and to bring more New York grown food into the cafeteria and classroom. Selected school teams will participate in a two-day virtual kickoff retreat in August 2021, bi-monthly workshops, and a (COVID-19 dependent) celebratory one-day Spring 2022 Gathering in the Hudson Valley. Schools will receive Farm to School Implementation Awards to encourage early progress in their Farm to School Action Plans, as well as coaching support throughout the year. We will be hosting an informational webinar about the application process on February 10th from 12-1 PM. To register for the webinar, apply to the program, or for more information about the institute, please visitwww.finys.org/institute.

Dirt: The Secret Life of Soil

at The Environmental Cooperative at Vassar Barns
6:00pm - Family friendly tour of Poughkeepsie Farm Project
7:00pm - Showtime!

A touring production created and performed by Arm-of-the-Sea Theater
Where does food "come from" and from what is it made? Here's a lively primer for urban bumpkins and upcountry gardeners alike. Fusing cutting-edge science and age-old puppetry, DIRT takes audiences on an extravagant journey of discovery into the Great Underneath---opening the curtain on the epic alchemy of plants, the fungi's dance of mutual delight, and the microbes' herculean labors. Featuring live music and a myriad of puppets ranging from 12" to 12' tall, the show reminds earthly residents of all ages quintessential truths from the ground beneath their feet.

This free public performance is made possible by a grant from the Ann & Abe Effron Fund of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.
