Join ethnobiologist and functional herbalist Hayden Stebbins for a walk through our farm fields and gardens to see the world in a way most people have only recently forgotten. During this walk, we will learn about common introduced and native plants, how to identify them by family, and their edible, medicinal, or poisonous properties. Participants will harvest edible plants along the walk to prepare a multi-course meal combining the harvest with regular food. This will include a wild plant pesto, hummus, a couple of teas and an extra dish depending on what plants and mushrooms are found.

Join us for a special sPOKe/8-ward ride for Saturday, November 10! With inspiration from Cranksgiving rides that happen around the country, we've organized Poughkeepsie's third annual Cranksgiving bike ride.

The details:
Like all 8-ward rides, it's a chance to get together with friends and neighbors and ride through all 8 wards of the City of Poughkeepsie. There will be a handful of stops where group members can if they desire, purchase nutritious non-perishable food items*. The ride will culminate in the delivery of collected food to Dutchess Outreach, where it will supply the Nourish Your Neighbor backpack program, benefiting Poughkeepsie City School District students.

This year there will be a post-ride wind-down at a local restaurant or brewery - location TBD! Please RSVP on Eventbrite so we have an idea of how many participants to plan for.

*Make sure to bring a backpack if you do not have storage on your bike.

6:30pm Potluck - Show off your culinary creativity or pickup a dish to serve at least 8. It can be a main dish, side dish and BYOB. PFP will provide hors d'oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages and desserts. The staff are making their favorite recipes to share with you all.

7:30pm Dance Instruction - Beginners and experienced dancers are welcome. The Walker Family Band will take us through the various movements and calls of the Barn Dance to follow.

Our 11th annual Soup-A-Bowl! Every fall, the Poughkeepsie Farm Project (PFP) and friends celebrate food and community at Vassar College’s Alumnae House with the Soup-a-Bowl Benefit Luncheon. Proceeds benefit the charitable and educational programs of PFP. Ticket-goers are treated to various bowls of soups, breads, beverages, and desserts, music stylings from The Roundabout Ramblers, games, a silent auction, and a handmade bowl created at Art Centro by local artisans. Fusing cutting-edge science and age-old puppetry, DIRT takes audiences on an extravagant journey of discovery into the Great Underneath---opening the curtain on the epic alchemy of plants, the fungi's dance of mutual delight, and the microbes' herculean labors. Featuring live music and a myriad of puppets ranging from 12" to 12' tall, the show reminds earthly residents of all ages quintessential truths from the ground beneath their feet.

This free public performance is made possible by a grant from the Ann & Abe Effron Fund of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.
