Good food in schools builds stronger communities

Poughkeepsie Farm Project embarked on its Farm to School work in 2013 as part of a collaborative project funded by the USDA. Our partnership with Poughkeepsie City School District has successfully introduced more fresh local produce into school meals and has started shifting the culture of food among students, faculty, staff, and families.

In Schools

We provide educational activities that support healthy food choices by transforming students’ understanding of the tremendous benefits of locally grown nutritious produce as a key component of a healthy diet. In classrooms, we teach lessons on nutrition and food systems, and we facilitate cooking workshops. Our educators visit cafeterias and expose students to fresh local foods.
