Join us on the Farm

Poughkeepsie Farm Project welcomes school and community groups to the farm throughout the season. We facilitate educational farm visits for learners of all ages. Sessions are typically two hours and include fun-filled, age-appropriate activities. Hands-on learning about food systems and biology ignites curiosity about the social and natural sciences. First-hand experiences cooking with fresh produce inspire and support healthy eating choices.

Farm Visits for Kids

At Poughkeepsie Farm Project, students have the opportunity to be outdoors and connect to the land. We engage them in meaningful work that teaches them where their food comes from and why it is important. When youth have positive experiences growing and cooking vegetables, they are more likely to choose to eat them.

What They'll Do:

  • See how a produce farm operates

  • Care for garden plants

  • Taste, and cook with, farm fresh vegetables

  • Understand stewardship in practice

  • Harvest and save seeds

  • Evaluate foods’ nutritional value

  • Talk about food access and hunger

  • Learn the science of sustainable farming

“Ever since visiting your farm, my son always asks for kale and wants to show me how to make the dish you taught him!”
— Natasha Cherry, Poughkeepsie Mom
